Person-Centred Care Training

Caring for someone, whether in their own home or in a nursing home involves so much more than meeting their basic needs.  Of course, ensuring that people have food, drink, medication and their personal care needs attended to are important, but what about everything else?  If you are a care home manager, how much do you know your residents?  What are their interests and hobbies?  I visit too many care homes where staff don’t know anything about the people they care for before they moved into the home.  Sometimes, all staff know is a person experiencing dementia and the resulting care needs that require assistance.

What do you know about your residents before they moved to your nursing home?  What interests did they have, sometimes lifelong passions and hobbies that have come to an abrupt halt?  Is there anything you can do to rekindle their love for … woodwork, watching football, going to the pub and meeting up with people they have known for decades?  The list is endless.  My hobbies include beekeeping, listening to classical music, watching orchestras and restoring classic Minis.  There will come a time when I won’t be able to climb under a car or inspect a bee hive but I will still want to read about those who can or watch someone else enjoying them.

My Person-Centred care is so much more than just providing you with the theory. It’s also about helping to changing cultures and attitudes towards caring for people. I’ll take you on a voyage of discovery and provide you with the tools you need to provide the very best care which is centred around the individual.
